Chanell sat before the great doors, behind which destiny lay hidden. She raised her hands and uttered a prayer that would awaken the dormant power to reveal itself.
"And so the circle will open, and all forces will leave their home… they will dwell forever in the human soul…
Chanell firmly believed in her destiny, and that was the reason for her future doom.
As the sun began to dip timidly below the horizon, the atmosphere in the castle grew increasingly tense, though no one knew why.
Ray persuaded Nick to take a walk around the castle, as they were not allowed on the grounds. Walking up the stone steps and through the corridors, they reached the great doors.
"That's what I've seen in my dreams…" Nick said, standing before the door.
Ray didn't say anything. She just stood there and watched as her companion approached the door and touched the bleeding wood. After a moment, the wood creaked and the door gently opened. Nick looked at Ray and said,
"You're the key..."
After a moment, he stepped through the door, unaware of anything.
"Bravo, Nicolas. We're proud of you, aren't we?" Chanell said, turning to Ray. Ray nodded and approached the vampire.
Nick watched in disbelief as the two girls stepped through the doorway. Chanell glanced around the room.
It was a large room filled with old, crumbling furniture and appliances, covered in a carpet of spiderwebs. Everywhere was sticky dust, giving off a choking stench. Something strange hung in the air.
"My Lady..." a voice suddenly echoed through the air.
"Here I am!" Chanell said, raising her hands. "Return, my Lord! Nothing will separate us again!"
Suddenly, a wind picked up. It enveloped their faces and rested right in front of them. It had been floating in the form of mist for a moment, swirling in a circle.
"What's going on here...?" Nick asked.
"Your beloved and I are resurrecting our Lord," Chanell replied proudly.
"Your...?
" "Yes. We're both vampires. Ha, and you, naive one, thought she was pure!"
Nick felt a surge of anger.
"Since when?
" "Oh, Nico, for a long time. A very long time. She gathered all the information from you and brought it to me. For that, she deserves a reward. She will be with me until the end of time.
" "You..." Nick didn't finish, as a white mist began to form into the figure of a tall person in a long black cloak.
"Lord..." Chanell whispered excitedly.
Before them stood a man of impressive height, dressed in black, with eyes the color of blood. His complexion was as fair as snow, his long black hair fell loosely over his shoulders, his nose crooked, and his mouth thin-lipped.
He held out a white hand. Ray, mesmerized by his charm, approached and took his hand. Surprised and enraged, Chanell tried to attack the girl and drain her blood, but she was too young a vampire. In the blink of an eye, she was thrown to the floor by the Great Lord of Vampires, whom she hoped to be queen of. His iron grip tightened around her neck, and his great fangs sank into her flesh, greedily drinking her blood.
Chanell looked pleadingly at the shocked Nick, whose entire body was paralyzed by fear. She breathed her last before his eyes, then closed her eyes forever. The Great Vampire dropped her to the floor, and her body crumbled to dust.
Ray, increasingly hypnotized, approached the Vampire and hugged him tightly.
"My Lady..." the Vampire whispered.
At that moment, some impulse commanded Nick to burn it all down, to close forever the gates of hell he had unknowingly opened, releasing all the evil contained within. He pulled a lighter from his pocket and threw it onto the rotting furniture, which instantly caught fire.
The vampire glared angrily at the boy, who was closing the door, cutting off their escape. Nick was already standing in front of the door when it too was engulfed in flames. He ran into the courtyard.
Meanwhile, the vampire screamed horribly, watching the flames dance around him. If he stayed, he would burn, and with him his Mistress, the one he had sought his entire life. But he was a vampire, after all.
He clenched his fist tightly. That was enough; all the windows shattered, sending a shower of small shards of glass falling from them. He stood with one eye still clutching his Mistress.
He flew. Above the already burning grass, above the screams, the cries, above the agony of the people. He flew. With his Mistress, with the jewel he had sought his entire life and his entire death. He flew. They stopped somewhere atop the tallest tree and watched the death around them.
Nick was already standing in the courtyard. From here, he had a view of the entire field, onto which seemingly all the students had rushed. Somewhere high above, he saw the gliding silhouette of a figure. It was him. The evil Nick had inevitably released.
He ran down. Unfortunately, the fire spread too quickly and trapped him and a dozen students in one of the towers.
The field was burning. It was just like in his dream. The school field was bathed in flames, full of life, the lives of children, escaping. And he could do nothing. Because of him, the castle was burning, and evil watched from afar. And his beloved, the one he was ready to love forever, had vanished along with the evil. But he still loved her.
His heart burned along with the castle. He heard the screams, the cries, the agony, all the pain of the dying. In moments, he, too, would die. His entire life flashed before his eyes. All the moments, the good and the bad. He closed his eyes. After a moment, he opened his eyes, wet with tears, and stared, not at the deadly grass, but somewhere above the trees where his beloved face was gazing down at him. Before dying, he whispered only, "And my heart will love you anyway... forgive me, everyone..." He breathed his last, and was consumed by fire in a vortex of death.
She clung to him. Neither of them spoke. They watched the burning castle. Namon shook off the vampire's magic, and tears streamed down her cheeks. She looked at the barely visible face of Nick, begging for her life. And she only clung tighter to the vampire and continued watching.
The fire consumed the entire castle and the vast expanses of forest surrounding it. Never again will a house be built in this place, no animal enclosure, nothing. This is a land of death, a land of evil.
Evil survives. Evil is within each of us. There are no heroes saving the world each day. The only things that exist are pure, crystal-clear feelings, like love, that survive even death.
