A similar incident from South America was reported in 1992 in the Australian weekly "People." This time, a small passenger plane nearly collided with a large flying lizard over the mountainous jungle in Brazil. Among the passengers on board was American anthropologist Dr. George Biles, who described the incident thus: "It was a classic white pterodactyl with a huge wingspan. Of course, I had heard rumors for years that these prehistoric creatures still haunted the Amazon. But I was skeptical, like everyone else. But neither a plane nor a UFO was flying near us. It was a pterodactyl."
A People magazine article claims a pterodactyl flew right alongside the plane as it prepared to land, and that the pilot veered slightly off course to avoid a collision with the "big bird." A flight attendant named Maya Cabon said, "There was this huge creature flying alongside the plane. It was just a few feet from the window—and it was looking right at me. I thought we were all going to die." The article doesn't specify the creature's size, but stories like this one start to raise suspicion when the pilot states, "...it was flying right at us, and it was very big!"
