Dawid Małyń attended high school. His school was 160 km from home, so he lived in a boarding school. He came home every Friday for the weekend.
A few months before the end of the year, one Saturday during dinner, he asked his parents if he could invite a friend.
"Which friend is he?" his surprised mother asked.
"His name is Patryk and he's in the second grade of middle school. I want you to meet him, because next year I might be rooming with him.
" "Second grade!? And he's already living in a boarding school?... Mom! I want that too! I'm only a grade below that... Patryk! And in my middle school there are such stupid people... Besides my group, of course!" Małgosia, Dawid's younger sister, now intervened.
"Well, you could bring him," Dad dismissed Gosia's whining. It was enough for him that he had one child far from home and had to worry about them—but when and for how long?
"Well, like next week for the weekend?" Dawid said. Mom looked at Dad and nodded in agreement.
"Agreed," their parents said almost simultaneously.
"Thanks!" Dawid exclaimed. "Andrzej! We'll go to the skatepark with him! He rollerblades too!" he turned to his brother.
The rest of dinner, the brothers discussed the "new tricks" they'd learned over the past week.
The week flew by. Everyone eagerly awaited their guest. Their parents were curious who their son was hanging out with again, and Andrzej couldn't wait for them to go rollerblading together. Only Gosia, in fact, seemed indifferent. All that mattered to her was the class trip she'd gone on the day her brother arrived. When she returned, everyone was already home.
"Hi!" she shouted. She entered the dining room, where Dawid introduced her to Patryk, and... you can probably all guess what happened next.
From then on, Małgosia kept thinking about her brother's friend. Nothing much happened between her and Patryk over the weekend. They watched TV together once, exchanged a few words, but nothing more. The weekend flew by, and they had to say goodbye. It didn't mean much to Patryk, but Gosia didn't want to be separated from him. For months after his departure, she dreamed of seeing him again. She knew she had no chance with him, yet she couldn't stop thinking about him. Later, it turned out that Patryk's parents had found good jobs abroad, and they had all moved. He was supposed to attend school there for three weeks, and if he didn't like it, he could return to Wrocław. And so it happened... Well, not entirely. Patryk returned to his old school—yes, but not because he didn't like the new one. Quite the opposite. For those three weeks, he chatted with Małgosia on IG almost every day. She managed to hear all the praise about the new house. She also learned that he'd found a girlfriend. It's unclear why he'd returned. Probably to see old friends.
One day, Dawid couldn't get home for the weekend, and the family had to go to his place. Małgosia was the one who came up with the idea for the trip. She really wanted to see her brother... and Patryk, of course. They took a friend with them to Wrocław, who attended art classes with Andrzej. They usually traveled by bus, but this time they were lucky and could travel in more comfortable conditions.
When they arrived, Andrzej and his friend were dropped off at the market square, from where they had to walk to the lesson themselves.
Before the rest of the family went to meet their son, they went shopping. They wouldn't have seen each other before then anyway, because Dawid had to leave the boarding school for something. They spent a very long time shopping. Małgosia was slowly losing patience. She didn't like going to the grocery store or other stores. She was also slowly losing hope of seeing Patryk...
After all this torture, with bags full of fruit and vegetables, they finally went to Dawid's. When they entered the room, they found no one. "Oh, right. I knew this would happen," Małgosia thought. David did arrive after five minutes, but Patryk was nowhere to be seen. Tears began to well up in Małgosia's eyes. Luckily, Dad asked his son where his roommates were (besides Patryk, Kamil also lived there). It turned out that Kamil had gone home and Patryk was at some training camp.
Małgosia had lost all hope when suddenly... HE entered the room. He was wearing shorts and a sweatshirt. He was sweaty from his workout. When Małgosia entered, her mood suddenly changed. However, her heart didn't leap into her throat. Well, it probably couldn't be love, but a strong infatuation. Patryk politely greeted the Małyń family and Małgosia. "It's a miracle he even remembers my name," the girl thought to herself. Conversations continued in the room. Even Gocha occasionally chimed in. It didn't last long, though. After about five minutes, Patryk said goodbye and went to take a shower.
The Małyń family also wanted to leave. They had to pick up Andrzej. The conversation dragged on long enough for Patryk to return and say goodbye again. But so what? He hadn't said a word to Gosia the entire time! (Besides saying hello, of course).
